Recipe: Marinara Sauce
Cook Time: 5 Hours 5 Minutes
This is a standard marinara sauce that can be used in so many ways, as is, or as a base sauce for other recipes. I usually make this in large batches on the weekend due to the cook time, and store it in jars or freeze it. (using 105 oz of tomatoes, and adjust seasonings accordingly).
*note* This can be made more quickly in a pinch by increasing the cooking temperature, being very careful not to let it burn. It does however loose a bit of depth of flavor.**
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1 tsp Crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon Oregano
2 tsp Parsley
1 Tbsp Basil
½ tsp Black Pepper
28 oz Tomato Sauce (can or homemade)
2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
¼ cup Dry Red Wine (optional)
Place olive oil, garlic, crushed red pepper, parsley, oregano, basil and black pepper into sauce pot. Sauté until herbs and garlic are just fragrant.
Stir in tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer low, stirring occasionally about 4 hours.
Stir in Wine (if using). Simmer, stirring occasionally, another hour to cook down.
For use immediately and/or to jar or freeze for later uses.
